So far - things look positive. I have set up a few to run overnight and will see how it survived in the morning. First couple were OK. Paul Webster DABDig creator

Wasn't so good with last night's run. It recorded 2 but then failed on 3rd (which was a switch from Radio to TV and also a switch of Mux - with a big gap between end of one and start of next). All subsequent recordings failed. DigiTV took the entry off the queue. I suspect that it thought it was actioning the request - but no data written to disk at all (not even an empty file). I have sent a note to Nebula and posted in the digitv-forum site. Paul Webster DABDig creator

Not sure if it is related - but Nebula sent me a new DLL (which is now on their web site http://www.nebula-electronics.com/downloads/beta/DigiVirtualTS.zip ) and I ran another 6 recordings (including mux changes and radio) and all worked fine. So - I am going to give it another go overnight - and if that goes well then it looks like it will be recording for me over Christmas. Paul Paul Webster DABDig creator

I've reverted to the DigiTV executable from 3.2.x I found the 3.5.12b too unreliable (even with the updated DLL). The good news (for me anyway) is that the old executable seems to run find on the underlying drivers etc from 3.5 ... so I simply renamed the exe file (I had kept a safety copy). I then adjusted a few of the scheduled recordings to really minimise the conflicts (by recording the repeats from later at night on BBC 4 for example - shame if they are "signed" though). For what it's worth, I installed last friday and haven't missed a recording yet.

Interesting. My brother has had similar success (with dual tuners). Do you record much from BBC Radio? How fast is your PC? Paul Webster DABDig creator

No, I don't use the DigiTV to record radio - I've got a Wavefinder I use for that. So I've only been recording Tv programmes. I've only got a single tuner, but I've successfully used DABDig to record multiple programmes from one multiplex at the same time. My PC is a 2.8GHz P4, with 1GB of RAM.

I seemed to get more failures when recording from radio - and I wondered if it was to do with the MHEG application that gets loaded up on BBC channels. Just FYI - the bit rates for BBC channels on Freeview are better than on DAB, so if you wanted a bit higher-fi then worth using the Nebula for it (assuming it won't crash or clash etc). thanks , I know I record from Freeview when I want to keep something. I'd get too many clashes if I used DigiTV for radio. Though, if the software holds up, I might consider a few slave tuners.. (though I still wouldn't have XFM, as it's on DAB but not on Freeview) I'll do an experiment or two with radio and let you know what happens |
